Hi, I’m Rob, the owner and head writer, here at ChordAddict.com. I am a professional musician and teacher from Canada. I have lived and performed all over the world for the last 20 years and now reside in Sweden. I perform regularly in a number of musical settings, including: solo jazz guitar, duos, trios and Big Band. I also take most other gigs that come my way: rock, country, Irish, you name it. I have been a teacher for nearly a decade and have produced a great deal of material for my students, so I decided to share it with you.
Why a Blog on chords and comping?
I did a little survey of the free (quality) material that is available on the web. As you might expect there is an abundance of beginner material, while the intermediate and advanced concepts are sorely lacking and/or are poorly organized. I hope to fill the void and add some organization to it all. By focusing on harmony, and the correct way to learn jazz, I feel I have something a bit different to offer here. Harmony is an integral part of melody and melody of harmony. Also chord soloing is an elusive subject for guitarists. There is however no reason why we shouldn’t be able to improvise a chord solo or melody just as easy as a single-note solo.
I am a guitar player and things here may be a bit guitar biased, I do however encourage all musicians to drop by and have a look. You will hopefully find something useful.
